THE COMPANY
The Story
Once upon a time there was a girl who loved fonts and big hats and romance novels who went to school in a cold cold land named Rochester Institute of Technology. There her love of fonts grew and was only overshadowed by her love of that cute RA on the second floor. She got her BFA in Graphic Design and escaped with her princely RA down the DC where she made ads, corporate emails, brochures, and friends a-plenty. Her prince proposed one night on a lovely little bridge in Ocean City and she said, “Yes. Yes! Yes! But put me on dry land because I’m scared I’ll drop the ring into the water.”
While she was planning her wedding she took part in a scientific fact finding mission (established by her friend Brandy) to determine which Mr. Darcy would reign supreme Matthew McFayden or Colin Firth (very serious scientific stuff, you see). At the end of the movie when she heard these lines:
Mr. Darcy: How are you this evening, my dear?
Elizabeth Bennet: Very well… although I wish you would not call me “my dear.”
Mr. Darcy: [chuckles] Why?
Elizabeth Bennet: Because it’s what my father always calls my mother when he’s cross about something.
Mr. Darcy: What endearments am I allowed?
Elizabeth Bennet: Well let me think…”Lizzie” for every day, “My Pearl” for Sundays, and…”Goddess Divine”… but only on *very* special occasions.
Mr. Darcy: And… what should I call you when I am cross? Mrs. Darcy…?
Elizabeth Bennet: No! No. You may only call me “Mrs. Darcy”… when you are completely, and perfectly, and incandescently happy.
Mr. Darcy: [he snickers] Then how are you this evening… Mrs. Darcy?
[kisses her on the forehead]
Mr. Darcy: Mrs. Darcy…
[kisses her on the right cheek]
Mr. Darcy: Mrs. Darcy…
[kisses her on the nose]
Mr. Darcy: Mrs. Darcy…
[kisses her on the left cheek]
Mr. Darcy: Mrs. Darcy…
[finally kisses her on the mouth]
She decided that she would be: the Future Mrs. Darcy.
A short while later the Future Mrs Darcy and her wonderful princely RA were married and decided that they would live out their happily ever after up in Boston.
But there was a wedding fever in Mrs. Darcy that could not be quelled. So she started design invitations based on the characters she so loved and built herself a turret in her house fit for a designing maverick and away she designs, for weddings, for corporations, for friends, and for life.
And that she was me.
